yummy rummies.

What do you get the person who has everything? Rummy gummies!

I really found myself struggling for a few gift ideas this year. Particularly for my brothers-in-law. I’ve never been one that sticks to a wish list (especially since their Christmas wants aren’t shared until a week or two before the day), but with these two, I can’t go cutesy-crafty on them. It’s just not their thing!

While surfing the internet, I stumbled across alcohol-soaked treats. Apparently, there’s nothing that can’t be enhanced with a bit of hard liquor!

Since I wasn’t about to venture out the week before Christmas, I dug through my wine rack and pulled out a bottle of pineapple rum. I had some haribo gummy bears left over from a party, so I got to work.

THIS is the greatness that was born:

 RUMMY BEARS!

What you’ll need:
  • alcohol (vodka or rum work best)
  • gummy candy
  • glass container
Put your gummy candy in the glass container, making sure to leave room for them to grow. They can expand up to three times their size (though mine probably only doubled). DO NOT use a plastic container. From what I understand, the porous nature of the plastic can seep into the candy. No bueno. Next, pour your alcohol over the gummies, just covering them.

Next, put a lid or plastic wrap over the top, and place in the fridge for at least 24-96 hours. Take them out and enjoy! (NOTE: this treat is meant for the 21 & up scene. Do NOT give to children. Remember, these have ALCOHOL in them, and will pack quite a punch.)

Since I was gifting them, I decided to repurpose some of lovebug’s old baby food jars. They’re the perfect gifting size! I painted the lids, and wrapped a portion of the glass jar with fun paper. I’ll be finishing it off with a bow. You could also create a printed label (clear address label) and place it directly on the glass.

Don’t have baby jars lying around? Start stockpiling glass jars from other condiments and reuse—after washing them, of course. Remember: almost anything can be repurposed for something else. It’s all about finding the perfect project for it. (And to be honest, many projects I do are inspired by the things I would otherwise trash. Just ask yourself: “what else can this be?”)

What project have you done that repurposed another item?
